LEV KARSAVIN

Rare publication from the archives of KGB about Lev Karsavin (died 1950 in the concentration camp), philosopher, one of the Berdyaev's generation (here in Russian). He was deported from Russia in 1922, lived and taught in Riga. After conquest of Latvia by Bolshevics in 1944 first his dauther was arrested in 1944. He was under observation with the name "Alchimik." He was arrested 8.7.1949. He was 67 years old and accused of trying to destroy Soviet power.

Karsavin participated in the movement of "euroasians," and he mention his former son-in-law Suvchinsky, who was more active in this sphere. He also mentioned that Savitsky, one of the euroasians activists, visited Moscow secretly in mid-1920-s and participated in the clandestine worship with Metropolit Petr Krutitski (now canonized.) Suvchinsky told Karsavin that Metr. Petr approved the activities of euroasians.
