Fr. Gleb Yakunin

Several words about the "ecclesiology" of Fr. Gleb Yakunin, an old friend of Fr. Menn. Fr. ALexander Menn is often compared with Polish Roman Catholic priest Fr. Yezhy Popeliushko, killed by Communist secret service in 1984. (In September, 2001, his killer after 15 years of imprisonment had been liberated, and said, he will work in an anti-press and he doesn't regret about the murder.)

Fr. Yakunin was closer to Fr. Popelyushko than Fr. Menn. If Russian Orthodox bishop supported Fr. Yakunin or at least had not persecute him on the orders of Communists, he will remain faithful to the
Church.

Now Fr. Gleb and some other nonconformists organized their own small Russian Orthodox Catholic church. Yakunin really had some sympathies to Roman Catholic churc: for him she was the symbol of reforms and
Western liberty. As concerns Metr. Nicodim Rotov and his pupils, like Cyrill Gundyaev, for them Rome is the symbol of power and slavery which they think is necessary for the Church.

I think those who think that Old-Stylers, Old-Ritualists or Lefevrists are not hopeless, can do the same charity to Fr. Yakunin.

Fr Gleb Yakunin now is an informal leader of the Russian orthodox church of Rebirth (Renewal? Reformation? he often mention it as reformation). BTW on my site you can see him and his bishops near the
tomb of Fr Alexander Myen, canonizing him http://www.Krotov\spravki\persons\20person\yakunin.html)

This church is very innumerous and semi-clandestine. One of their sites (in Russian): http://stavros7.narod.ru/fan.html. Another, official: http://apcv.h1.ru.
